Alice Carter – MSc by Research Sports Development, 2014
Alice remained in Lincoln following her undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in Sport Development and now works to support the local community as Head of Healthier Communities at Lincoln City Foundation.
Alice graduated with both her undergraduate and postgraduate degrees from the University of Lincoln having studied BSc Sport Development and Coaching and MSc by Research Sports Development. She has remained living in the city, and has achieved several promotions in her work for Lincoln City Foundation. She is now Head of Healthier Communities, managing Health and Wellbeing programmes, supporting the regeneration of parts of the city and other local initiatives, including community regeneration support to the Sincil Bank area of Lincoln, a teaching English as a foreign language project, an over 55s social and physical activity programme, a male mental health initiative, and a cancer rehabilitation programme.
Whilst studying at University, Alice undertook a number of voluntary roles which both enhanced her confidence, expanded her skill set, and allowed her to create connections. This allowed her to define where she saw her career going and furthermore made her realise that Lincoln was where she wanted her employment to be based – it felt like home.
“The University of Lincoln is a forward-thinking institution that has grown and developed year on year; throughout my studies, I was aware of this, and since living in the city after graduating I have witnessed its expansion. The University places equal emphasis on academic knowledge, research, and practical experience, which is vital for being employable after graduating.”
“I love the feeling of being able to make a difference and impact people’s lives – this is what motivates me. My role is very varied, and no two weeks are the same; this is both exciting and also provides a challenge. The best part of my job however is working with inspiring local people who are passionate about making change happen.”
