Rowena’s career story below provides a great example of where post graduate studies at the University of Lincoln can take you in your career.
Prior to undertaking the Msc in Advanced Clinical Practice, Rowena worked for over 10 years in several physiotherapy roles with older adults, this included roles as a practitioner in the community and time as a clinical lead.
Rowena embarked on the Msc Advanced Clinical Practice in 2015, a course that she thoroughly enjoyed believing that it really increased her clinical, leadership, education and research skills. So much so that towards the end of the programme Rowena secured a senior lecturer role at the university which she combined with a clinical practice educator role.
Reflecting on the strengths of the programme, Rowena would suggest that the ‘interprofessional’ element was key, as she gained a lot of knowledge and insights from other professionals during the study days. Indeed, the networking open the door to her current role at the university.
Rowena would also suggest that being able to give time to focussing on the ‘four pillars’ of learning, really allowed her to reflect on her previous knowledge and skills, as well as helping her expand her clinical and research skills. This was in one respect challenging but at the same time gave her confidence and the motivation to explore new areas, something she feels she would not have been able to do had she not undertaken the programme.
