William graduated from the University of Lincoln in 2022 with a LLb Law (Hons), and now works in insolvency.

We asked William a few questions about his job and how his time at university supported his career:

What are you doing now you have graduated from the University of Lincoln?: 

As an Insolvency Case Administrator, my responsibilities would include managing and administering insolvency cases, liaising with creditors and stakeholders, conducting investigations, and assisting in the development of strategies to maximize returns for all parties involved. I am also undertaking Professional Qualifications in accounting.

How did your time at the University of Lincoln support your career?: 

Knowledge of Insolvency Laws: A law degree equips you with a solid understanding of legal principles and frameworks. In the context of insolvency, studying subjects such as, corporate law, contract law, and commercial law can provide you with a strong foundation of knowledge regarding the legal aspects of insolvency proceedings.

Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Law programs emphasize critical thinking, analysis, and problem-solving. These skills are highly transferable to the insolvency field, where you often need to assess complex financial situations, evaluate legal options, and devise strategies to resolve insolvency issues effectively.

Contract and Commercial Awareness: Insolvency often involves reviewing and interpreting contracts, agreements, and financial documents. Legal education provides you with the ability to analyse and understand the implications of these legal and financial documents, which is vital in navigating insolvency cases.

Negotiation and Mediation Skills: As an insolvency professional, you may find yourself engaging in negotiations, mediations, and discussions with various stakeholders, including creditors, debtors, and other parties involved in the insolvency process. Legal training can equip you with effective negotiation techniques, communication skills, and the ability to handle conflicts in a professional manner.

What are the best parts of your job?: 

Assisting Individuals and Businesses: One of the most rewarding aspects of being an Insolvency Case Administrator is the opportunity to help individuals and businesses facing financial difficulties. By guiding them through the insolvency process, you play a vital role in facilitating their path to financial recovery and a fresh start. Being able to make a positive impact on people’s lives and businesses can be incredibly fulfilling.

Continuous Learning and Professional Growth: The field of insolvency is dynamic and ever-evolving, presenting ongoing learning opportunities. As an Insolvency Case Administrator, you have the chance to expand your knowledge of insolvency laws, regulations, and procedures. Additionally, working on a variety of cases can expose you to diverse industries and unique challenges, allowing you to continuously develop your expertise and broaden your skill set.
