Full Name: Sarah-May Buccieri
Graduation Year: 2022
Course Studied: Journalism
Job Title: Journalist
Employer/Organisation Name: BBC
What are you doing now you have graduated from the University of Lincoln?: I work as a journalist at the BBC. I report on stories which air on the radio and on TV. I also read the news on the station and report live across the county.
How did your time at the University of Lincoln support your career?: Taught me a lot about the legal side of being a journalist and how to abide to the law. It also taught me how to editorially ensure a story is sound and the technicals of how to produce a multi platform piece.
What are the best parts of your job?: Meeting people! telling their stories and sharing them as much as I can. I know I’ve done a good job when an interviewee tells me and they feel properly and fairly represented.
What inspired you to study at the University of Lincoln (or one of its predecessor institutions)?: I came to the university when I was in Year 9 at secondary school and I loved the journalism department, it always stood with me.
What was your favourite thing about being a student at the University of Lincoln (or one of its predecessor institutions)?: The support I had from the staffing team around me, they really helped me when I started applying for jobs.
What would you say to a prospective student thinking of applying to the University of Lincoln?: Do it! Lincoln is a city which feels like home to anyone who comes. The university is only growing and it’s something not to be missed!
If you could give our current students any top tip for after graduation and their careers, what would it be?: Show as much enthusiasm as you can! It really shows to professionals.
