Athlete & Teams Manager at Rapha Racing Ltd

Full Name: Thomas Long
Graduation Year: 2018
Course Studied: History
Job Title: Athlete & Teams Manager
Employer/Organisation Name: Rapha Racing Ltd
What are you doing now you have graduated from the University of Lincoln?: I am the Athletes and Team manager for the high end sportswear brand Rapha. Managing the strategy for sponsorships at Rapha, from the world tour pros to exciting new projects in east Africa. Managing the day to day relationship with these partners and ensuring Rapha gets a return on investment. Be it in product validation, athlete insights, exposure at the biggest races or storytelling opportunities.
How did your time at the University of Lincoln support your career?: Taught me key analytical skills as well as how to communicate and collaborate with peers.
What are the best parts of your job?: The ability to connect my passion for cycling with my career.
If you could give our current students any top tip for after graduation and their careers, what would it be?: Do something that excites and motivates you. Salary isn’t everything. It’s more worthwhile in my opinion to work somewhere with a great culture and you are passionate about as opposed to somewhere that is a pure money maker.
What inspired you to study at the University of Lincoln (or one of its predecessor institutions)?: A modern university with ever improving facilities.
What was your favourite thing about being a student at the University of Lincoln (or one of its predecessor institutions)?: The relationship with our tutors. I appreciated the feedback and support they offered.
What would you say to a prospective student thinking of applying to the University of Lincoln?: Your degree and your final career may not be linked. For example I technically work in marketing now. However, choose a course based on the skills it can give you, not just the content you will study.
