Drug Safety Officer at Pfizer

Full Name: Lily Aldrich
Graduation Year: 2019
Course Studied: Pharmaceutical Science
Job Title: Drug Safety Officer
Employer/Organisation Name: Pfizer
What are you doing now you have graduated from the University of Lincoln?: I am currently working in Pharmacovigilance at Pfizer as a Drug Safety Officer. Previously I was working for an oncology CRO as a clinical trial assistant and pharmacovigilance associate.
How did your time at the University of Lincoln support your career?: The course in particular widened my understanding of the broad areas of the pharmaceutical industry and the different avenues you can go down career wise.
What are the best parts of your job?: It feels very rewarding working for a large pharmaceutical company that has such a great impact on the UK’s medicines and health care.
If you could give our current students any top tip for after graduation and their careers, what would it be?: Whilst studying, try and acknowledge areas that you are particularly interested in. It helps to have a sense of the type of role you would be happier in when researching careers. Also, do not be discouraged by any rejection and if you have your heart set on something, keep trying!
What inspired you to study at the University of Lincoln (or one of its predecessor institutions)?: The course was appealing and the campus was very much suited to me.
What was your favourite thing about being a student at the University of Lincoln (or one of its predecessor institutions)?: It felt very homely and comfortable, it was not too overwhelming.
What would you say to a prospective student thinking of applying to the University of Lincoln?: It’s a great university that supports you in many different ways, both personally and academically.
Did you undertake a placement (this could be a short term work placement, a year in industry or a study abroad placement)?: Yes
Please tell us more about your placement and how this may have supported you.: I did a short placement at Lincoln hospital in the clinical trials department which was arranged by the university. This enabled me to connect what we were being taught with real life examples. It also allowed me to understand by first job out of uni as it was doing a similar thing. I did a summer 2 week placement at Pfizer which I arranged myself and is what made me want to work there!
