Full Name: George Tandiko
Graduation Year: 2019
Course Studied: MSc Finance
Job Title: Business Performance Manager
Employer/Organisation Name: DFDS Seaways PLC

What are you doing now you have graduated from the University of Lincoln?:

Currently working as a Business Performance Manager for DFDS, a Danish shipping line company and one of the largest ferry operators in Europe. I am stationed at Port of Immingham which is situated within NE Lincolnshire.

How did your time at the University of Lincoln support your career?:

My time at University helped me to shape my career. Whilst studying for my MSc Finance, I made the best decision of my life where I decided to switch career from Teaching to Data Analysis.

What are the best parts of your job?:

As a Business Performance Manager, I am responsible for the overall data and analytics for the entire Immingham Terminal. The best of this role is the ability to drive business strategy and have a tangible impact on how our organisation moves forward.

If you could give our current students any top tip for after graduation and their careers, what would it be?:

Networking is vital especially if you are looking for a job. I would highly recommend creating a LinkedIn profile where potential employers can see what skills and qualification you have. I would also recommend, if possible, whilst applying for a specific role to also try upskills yourselves through online learning platforms such as Udemy.

Were you an international student?: Yes
Why did you choose to study in the UK?: Before came to the UK, I was offered places to some other universities in my own country, Tanzania, South Africa and India. I choose study in the UK mainly due to its high academic standards and world-class universities. Studied here has provided me with a solid foundation and the skills I need to excel in my career.

What inspired you to study at the University of Lincoln (or one of its predecessor institutions)?:

A relative of mine who graduated with an MBA Finance many years back inspired me to come here.

What was your favourite thing about being a student at the University of Lincoln (or one of its predecessor institutions)?:

I enjoyed being a member of African-Caribbean society. Like most university students, I also enjoyed the night life.

What would you say to a prospective student thinking of applying to the University of Lincoln?:

As a University of Lincoln graduate of both BSc and MSc, I cannot recommend highly enough. I have watched the university growing and become one of the best universities in the country. The city of Lincoln is small yet safe.

Whilst you were at University, or as a recent graduate, did you access the Careers and Employability Service?: Yes

Please add any details of the careers support you received.: I received great deal of support from the careers team especially on how to prepare for the job interview. Before opted for this service, I had applied for number of jobs with no avail but soon after my first support session with a member form the careers team, I applied and offered a full time position as a Pricing Analyst.
