Matt Stebbings – MSc Sport Science, 2012
Matt studied at undergraduate and postgraduate level at Lincoln, graduating with a BSc and MSc in Sport Science. Since graduating in 2012 he has held a range of role supporting health in the region and developing athletes by founding his own business. He is now Football Development Manager and is supporting the growth of women's football.
Matt completed both his undergraduate and postgraduate degrees at Lincoln’s School of Sport and Exercise Science, graduating from BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise Science in 2010 and MSc Sport Science in 2012.
‘I attended one of the open days before starting my undergraduate BSc (Hons) in Sport and Exercise Science course and instantly made a connection with Lincoln. The tour of the Human Performance Centre and the rest of the campus cemented my decision to study at Lincoln. I had also had previous recommendations from students in previous years that recommended Lincoln to me to go and visit.’
Matt’s favourite thing about Lincoln was the balance between study and student living; ‘The independence that you gain from student living in Lincoln is great. Everything you need is within walking distance, from the university, nightlife, social activities, and accommodation. The city has a great vibe about it and I enjoyed every minute of my 4 years completing my BSc and MSc.’
After graduation, Matt started his career as Physical Activity and Health Manager for Sentinel Leisure Trust delivering local authority initiatives to decrease inactivity across the region. Alongside this, Matt co-founded Performance4Sport, a sports therapy, sports science and strength and conditioning business providing training packages to support athletic performance.
Matt has subsequently gone on to rise to Community Education Manager at SLT Group, leading the national delivery of community education and health services. He has also taken on the role of Women’s Physical Performance Coach at Norwich City Women FC.
‘Being part of NCWFC is a fantastic privilege. The team is ever-growing and evolving in the right direction. Wearing the club badge is an honour and the whole squad is striving to be the best we can be.’
Most recently Matt has taken on the role of Football Development Manager at Suffolk County Football Association, managing facilities, investment, and implementation of the FA’s growth strategy for women and girl football locally.
‘Lincoln gave me not only independence but also the key skills and knowledge to go out into the wider world and challenge myself. The course was the basis to go out and explore what opportunities are available for graduates to be successful.’
